Felted Boho Bag

I found a great little tutorial on Pinterest ( sorry I didn't bookmark it, but look for felt bag tutorials if you are keen) on making textured felt bags. I happen to be very keen on adding texture to all my creations, so this tutorial tickled my fancy.
Basically, and I wont go into the whole story was to

Lay out 3 layers of wool with the first layer adding bits and pieces.
Lay down a plastic sheet cut to size (remembering shrinkage) onto wool.
Lay out another 3 layers of wool with the last one adding bits.

Now the trick was to first lay the lot onto some nylon, then cover the top with more. The artist then proceeded to sew the lot together into a parcel. With MANY lines of straight stitch to hold the wool layers together. This parcel was then placed in a laundry bag and tossed in with a load of washing in the washing machine!
Now of course her bag came out looking all beautiful with lovely edges and very funky indeed.

I on the other hand, couldn't be bothered with all that tedious sewing, so felted the layers in the traditional manner. Mmmm....yes..... a bit more practise is required, but I did learn a lot from my little bag.

Felted wool bag
1. Simply laying wool together in this manner on the edges gives a rather untidy edge! There is no laying over the excess wool from front to back as is traditional in a no-seam bag.
2. Recycled sari yarn, though beautiful and rich in colour and shine is full of small threads and though should felt nicely into the wool, needed to be attached more securely.
3. Pieces of Angelina fiber sheets look great in felt and will use it more often for bags and pins!

The inclusions in the closeup show the 2 types of recycled sari yarn and ribbon, hand dyed silk fabric, tussah silk, tencel and the Angelina (shiny).

Well, I'm off to play some more. Have a great day and I will catch up soon. Oh and if you are playing with wool, send me a link so I can have a peek.
