I love Aprons

Ive been spending what seems years selling our home! And with it finally selling came the organising the sale of excess furniture, finding rentals, finding space for the rest of the furniture that doesn't fit into the rental, beginnings of building a new house etc, etc. Phew!

And so with all that Ive had to put creating anything on the back burner. And all us creatives know just how depressing that can be! I have kept an eye on my felt and silk paper shops, but haven't had the space or the time to add anything new and that has been extremely frustrating. But.... the other evening, I was attempting to sort out some fabric from my stash into some semblance of order to create space in the garage when I came across some particularly pretty (I thought so) fabrics that just cried out to be made into an apron!

Ive been reading a lot of hooha on aprons lately. Basically there have been women saying that the wearing of aprons takes away all the independence that women have gained over the last 50 years. That by wearing aprons we will all be tied to the kitchens again and by this  become the 2nd class citizens that we were back before the 1950's!

What a load of gumph! As an artist, cook extraordinaire (in the eyes of my family ;-) and sewing enthusiast, my aprons for each job are indispensable.  Where else can I wipe my hands, put my mobile phone and glasses without losing them? Apart from the logical keeping of clothes clean?.

I have my Xmas apron, my painting apron, my clean apron for felting and sewing and a very funky little number from Switzerland complete with lots of spare pockets, plus of course there is the red number that I cooked up last year from remnants! I would be lost without them and do not in the least feel like the 'little women'.

But back to my fabric stash..  At the end of each day of sorting out houses and absolutely exhausted, I  found a few minutes to put together this little number.

Do you wear an apron? Or have one for special occasions?
I'm feeling a plethora of aprons coming on!
The possibilities are endless!
