South West Australia

It was our 34th wedding anniversary yesterday and we thought it would be a nice idea to play tourists around our own area for the day. I took my trusty camera thinking to find colour and texture inspiration for my felted scarves, and did indeed find a few bits and bobs.

Flame tree at Pilandri Winery
The iteinery was all about food and art!
So the first cab off the rank was to Pilandri Winery a few kilometers from here for breakfast - the most amazingly huge and delicious french toast with grilled bananas, bacon and buckets of maple syrup! Oh to die for! Plus the beautiful flame tree in blossom.

Next it was off to the Silk worm Factory in Margaret River - the first coomercial silk worm farm in Australia. They grow the worms then ship the processed cocoons to Cambodia to small communities who are rediscovering the art ofspinning silk into beautiful cloth which is then sewn into scarves, garments etc and sold back here. Amazing story that one.
After that it was wine tasting at the Grove Winery where you had to watch out for crocodiles in their dam!

Redgate Beach
And then to take a peek at Redgate Beach. There were plenty of surfers out today, obviously undeterred by the great white sharks we have floating around the area!
After lunch it was time for dessert, so no better place than the Chocolate Factory just around the corner!

Chocolate Factory
Who could resist a chocolate freckle this big?
Anyway it was a great day spent with my loved one and I did make him a 'man scarf, but didnt get around to photographing him wearing it. Maybe another day!
